Remember that technicians do charge for testing and diagnosis, even if you decide not to have the computer repair completed.
Some people think that a cracked screen means it is time to buy a new laptop. Replacing rather than repairing might be the wise decision. It depends on the age and the brand of the system. Here are some examples of what I mean.
Older laptops may have multiple problems making it more costly to do the repairs than to get a new system. A Macbook repair is almost always more expensive than say repairing a Dell laptop.
Macs are simply harder to work on than other brands. Just opening the case is a tedious process. Unless the technician is experienced, he or she could break the case trying to open it. However, replacing the screen may not require opening the case. You could always get an estimate, regardless of the brand.
