6 Tips that Might Save Your Laptop Power Jack
Working with a laptop repair company and seeing the number of bad laptop power jacks has led me to create this list of tips to help you save your laptops power jack and avoid needing to have your laptop repaired.
Tip #1: Keep the Power Cord Out of Walk Paths. This is number one for a reason. Keeping someone from tripping over your power cord, thus ripping the plug out of the power jack, will keep help keep your power jack safe.
Tip #2: Unplug Before You Pick up or Move Your Laptop. Anything that can strain the connection from your laptop to the power cord is not good. Just unplug your laptop before your pick it up or move it.
Tip #3: Be Nice When you Plug and Unplug. When you do unplug your laptop, don’t just grab the cord and yank. Instead, make sure you have a good grip on the cord end and gently pull the end connector straight out. Also, refrain from wiggling the connector when you plug it in. That loosens the connection and can strain the power jacks connection to the motherboard.
Tip #4: Keep Laptop on Hard Flat Surface. Putting a laptop on a pillow, bed, your lap, or the couch can allow stress to be applied to the connector if the laptop gets pushed into a soft surface. Try using a tray or something to place in between your laptop and any soft surface.
Tip #5: Store Your Power Adapter When Not in Use. Taking care of your power adapter by keeping it in a small bag or strapped safely in your laptop case will keep the possibility of damaging the end or getting debris into the power jack plug end.
Tip #6: Never Plug or Probe the Power Jack or Plug. If something gets caught in the hole of your connector or in the power jack port itself, never dig around or try to pull the debris out with a Pen or screw driver. Instead try using canned air or a quick blast with an air compressor hose. The little pin connectors can be easy to break off and is one of the most common reasons for a faulty power jack.
By following these simple tips and taking care of your laptop power jack, your laptop power jack will be good to you. It is obvious, after seeing many power jack repairs, that it usually boils down to being forceful with the connector or some one tripping over the cord, which can ruin more than a power jack plug. I hope these 6 tips help you out.
